Lithuanian Pirma Lyga club FK Tauras Tauragė have announced the appointment of Belarusian specialist Sergej Kuznetsov as their new head coach. Kuznetsov arrives after spending the last three seasons in charge of DFK Dainava Alytus.
The 46-year-old coach was dismissed from Dainava in May following a disastrous start to the 2025 A Lyga season, where his team collected just two points from the opening ten league matches. Despite that poor run, Kuznetsov had enjoyed major success with the club only a year earlier, leading Dainava to the highest league finish in their history with an impressive fourth place in Lithuania’s top division.
Now, Kuznetsov takes on a fresh challenge as he attempts to guide Tauras back to the A Lyga. The Tauragė-based side enjoyed their best season in over a decade this year, finishing third in the Pirma Lyga – their strongest result in the last 12 years.
FK Tauras last competed in Lithuania’s top flight in 2013, and the club recently confirmed that Lithuanian coach Darius Gvildys will depart after two seasons in charge.
Before arriving in Lithuania, Kuznetsov gained international experience in Ukraine, working as an assistant coach and briefly as caretaker manager at Premier League side Kolos Kovalivka.
