Tartu Tammeka have brought in midfielder Muhammed Hydara on a season-long loan from FS Jelgava.
The 21-year-old, a Gambia-born player who stands 1.86m tall, arrives in Tartu after spells in Slovakia and in his home country. Head coach Karel Voolaid said Hydara’s versatility was a key part of the move, with the club looking to add players capable of filling multiple roles.
“Muhammed Hydara is a universal central midfielder,” Voolaid said. “His best qualities can come out in build-up play and in the transition to attack. He can also score goals. We see him more as an attacking midfielder, but he can cover different roles. Our squad development plan needs a certain number of more versatile players.”
Hydara outlined what he hopes to bring in possession and in the final third. “My strengths are controlling the ball, moving it and passing between players,” he said. “This season I want to provide assists and score goals myself.”
“I started with street football in The Gambia when I was five or six, then played for a local team, then as a professional in the Gambian top league, and after that I came to play in Slovakia,” Hydara said. “And now to Estonia, to Tartu.”
Hydara spent the past two-and-a-half years with clubs in central Slovakia. From summer 2024 to the end of 2025 he played for second-tier side Pohronie, featuring regularly as he recorded 39 matches, six goals and six assists. Before that, he was with top-flight club Železiarne Podbrezová, playing for their youth side and making one appearance in the Slovak top division. Last week, he joined FS Jelgava on a three year contract and is now heading to Tartu.
He has already had his first minutes in a Tammeka shirt, playing a half in a 31 January friendly against Nõmme United. Tammeka won 5-0 in the half he featured.
