More drama unfolded on the final day of the Estonian Premium Liiga season, as Tartu JK Tammeka pulled off a surprise 2-0 home victory over JK Narva Trans, climbing to eighth place and escaping the relegation playoff. Their survival was sealed thanks to FC Kuressaare’s 1-2 defeat away to already-relegated JK Tallinna Kalev, sending the island club into a two-legged playoff against Esiliiga runners-up Viimsi JK.
Before kickoff, the relegation battle was wide open. Kuressaare held the advantage, sitting eighth and needing only to avoid defeat in Tallinn – or for Tammeka to fail to beat fifth-placed Narva Trans, a team Tartu had not managed to defeat in three previous meetings this season.
But this time, Tammeka rose to the occasion. The home side struck twice in the first half – Guinean forward Mousta Bah opened the scoring in the 8th minute, and later Italian Giacomo Uggeri doubled the lead before halftime, giving the Tartu club a commanding position and their first-ever win over Narva this season.
Narva’s hopes of a comeback faded early in the second half when Ukrainian Mykhailo Kozhushko received two quick yellow cards, leaving his team a man down for the rest of the match. Tammeka held firm to secure all three points – but their fate still depended on what happened in Tallinn.
Tartu JK Tammeka vs JK Narva Trans – 2:0 (2:0)
Goals: Bah 8′, Uggeri 32′
There, the drama continued. After a goalless first half, Tallinna Kalev – already relegated – struck twice in the second period. Taaniel Usta, netting his 13th goal of the season, gave the hosts the lead, before Senegalese striker Felix Sambe scored his first-ever Premium Liiga goal in the 82nd minute to make it 200. Kuressaare pulled one back through Andero Kivi, but it wasn’t enough to change their fate.
The defeat meant heartbreak for Kuressaare and a delayed farewell for club legend Marten Pajunurm, whose final career match was expected to take place today. Instead, the veteran defender will now have to lead his side into two decisive playoff games against Viimsi JK, fighting to preserve Kuressaare’s top-flight status.
JK Tallinna Kalev vs FC Kuressaare – 2:1 (0:0)
Goals: Usta 49′, Sambe 82′ | Kivi 89′
