Tartu Tammeka continued their pre-season preparations with a 6-0 win over Nõmme United in Tallinn, with Patrick Veelma scoring a hat-trick in the third of seven planned warm-up matches.
Tammeka took control early as Pavel Marin opened the scoring on 15 minutes before Veelma struck twice in quick succession: first, on 17th minute and then adding a penalty on the 32nd minute to make it 3-0. Ignatius added another goal 2 minutes later and Veelma completed his treble before the break to finish the first half with a 5-0 rout of Nõmme United. After the break, Arti Viinapuu rounded off the final score on 68th minute.
Head coach Karel Voolaid said the key was getting minutes into the squad and keeping everyone fit. “We played a good match,” he said. “We were able to give many players metres and minutes and everyone stayed healthy. Our opponent is playing on two consecutive days, so they didn’t come with the best possible line-up. In that case it would certainly have been a hotter, more serious game.”
Voolaid added that Tammeka’s game plan and attacking play worked, even though the coaching staff have been focused elsewhere. “I don’t want to take anything away from us – our plan worked well and the attacking things worked too,” he said. “But our main work has been on defensive actions, aggressive and compact work, helping each other and staying close. That’s our focus, the foundation without which you can’t be successful.”
He also offered an assessment of several recent additions as they build match rhythm. “Oliver Kangaslaht and Muhammed Hydara definitely have the quality we expected,” Voolaid said. “But they, like Reio Laabus, had a longer break, so it takes time to find the rhythm and build quality. Our job is to integrate them into the team so a good understanding develops.”
Tammeka will return to Tallinn next weekend to face FCI Levadia, before hosting Viimsi on 15 February at the Annemõisa hall.
