Super Nova produced a surprise of the Virslīga Matchday 27 on Monday evening, defeating FK Liepāja 3-0 away from home and snapping their own long winless streak in the process. The result also ended Liepāja’s run of four straight victories.

The match had a lively opening, with the hosts pushing high and forcing multiple corners in the first ten minutes. Yet it was the visitors who struck first: teenage winger Kristers Skadmanis surged down the right in the sixth minute and picked out Agris Glaudāns, who finished from close range. The 19-year-old was involved again soon after, setting up another chance that Petković just managed to parry.

Liepāja continued to dominate possession and rack up corner kicks – 19 in total over the night – but clear-cut chances were scarce. Their frustration deepened when winger Amadou Traoré was forced off injured before half-time, and just moments into the second period Super Nova doubled their lead. Breaking through the middle, Glaudāns kept his nerve in a one-on-one and made it 2–0.

The home side’s best chance to respond came in the 56th minute when Bruno Melnis somehow struck the crossbar from point-blank range. Later, Edvinas Girdvainis did head the ball into the net, but the effort was chalked off for a foul and offside interference by Djibril Gueye.

The night truly belonged to Super Nova, and the decisive blow came late on. Substitute Tomass Zants, making just his second appearance of the season, danced past a defender and coolly slotted home to complete a memorable 3-0 win.

The celebrations spilled over, with head coach Ervīns Pērkons shown a red card for his emotional reaction on the touchline. Still, the victory will be savoured by the league newcomers – their first since July 6.

Super Nova return to action on August 31 against Riga FC, while Liepāja will look to bounce back quickly when they face Metta on Friday night.
