Super Nova were left frustrated on Saturday as they could not turn a one-player advantage into a victory, settling for a 1-1 draw against Jelgava in front of their home fans.
The game started cautiously. Jelgava’s early opportunity came when Ondrej Ullman whipped in a dangerous cross, only for Agris Glaudāns to clear the ball off the line in a crucial intervention. Super Nova responded with a fast break of their own midway through the first half, but Dmytro Sula’s shot narrowly missed Adam Dvořák’s goal. Despite a few half-chances on both sides, the first 45 minutes ended goalless.
The second half saw the game swing in Super Nova’s favor when Kristers Aļekseičiks received a straight red card for a sliding challenge on Kristers Skadmanis.
Super Nova dominated possession after going up a player and had multiple chances to take the lead. In the 67th minute, Skadmanis threatened with a dangerous pass into the box, but Dvořák was quick to intervene. Moments later, the post denied the home side again.
However, In the 73rd minute, after a corner, Martin Hašek found himself in the right place to put the visitors ahead while playing with 10 players. Super Nova did not give up, and ten minutes from time, a precise cross from Artem Marchuk was punched out by goalkeeper Dvorak, but straight to Skadmanis who leveled the score with a first time shot.
Despite the late pressure, Super Nova could not find a winner. The draw, combined with Grobiņa’s victory elsewhere, dropped the hosts into ninth place, inside the relegation play-off zone, leaving them with much to ponder ahead of the next round.
