Round 2 of the Toplyga saw FK Sūduva and FA Šiauliai both searching for their first win of the season, but neither side managed to break the deadlock in a goalless 0-0 draw at the Marijampolė Football Arena.

Sūduva, who opened the campaign with a scoreless draw against Panevėžys, kept the same starting eleven under head coach Donatas Vencevičius. Šiauliai manager Jurģis Pučinsks, meanwhile, made two changes. Last season’s Pirma Lyga top scorer Chidera Nwoga, who netted 28 goals for TransInvest, was handed his first start, as was Serbian defender Lazar Vuković.

Midway through the first half, Šiauliai survived a defensive scare when Vuković misplayed the ball, but Emmanuel Agbor’s header was denied by goalkeeper Paulius Linkevičius. The Šiauliai shot-stopper was called into action again soon after, racing off his line to stop Žygimantas Baltrūnas as he burst into the penalty area.

As halftime approached, Patrikas Pranckus created a golden opportunity for Rui Batalha with a dangerous cross from the flank, but the Portuguese attacker failed to hit the target from close range. Batalha had another chance shortly after, though this time Ignas Plūkas dealt with the effort confidently.

The second half was marked by a worrying moment for the hosts, as Agbor was forced off on a stretcher following an injury. In the 62nd minute, Pranckus again provided quality service, but Nwoga fired straight at Plūkas from a promising position.

Sūduva pushed late on, with Ibrahim Seck seeing two attempts blocked in the 72nd minute, while at the other end Daniel Romanovskis failed to capitalise on a quick transition opportunity.

In the end, both sides had to settle for a point. With two draws from two matches, Sūduva and Šiauliai each sit on two points and continue their search for a first victory of the new Toplyga season.
