Lithuanian bronze medalists FK Žalgiris Vilnius have announced a contract extension with Serbian striker Nikola Petković, showing faith in the forward after a season largely ruined by injury.
The 29-year-old attacker missed almost the entire 2025 season after suffering a serious injury in a pre-season friendly. As a result, Petković managed only one league appearance, coming on as a substitute for the final 15 minutes in the last match of the season against Panevėžys.
Despite his long absence, Žalgiris have decided to continue their cooperation with the striker, who will now enter his third season with the Vilnius club.
In his debut campaign, Petković played a big role in Žalgiris’ league title triumph, scoring eight goals in 24 matches and establishing himself as an important part of the team’s attacking line.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Petković expressed gratitude for the support he received and optimism for the season ahead:
“When I suffered a serious injury last season, the club helped me a lot, and now it gives me the opportunity to return. I appreciate and respect the club’s trust and I will do my best not to disappoint.
I will give my all on the pitch so that the team and I can achieve the highest goals. It is nice to see more and more people interested in our club. It will be a real pleasure to see everyone in the stadium and fight together for the highest goals,” said Petković.
