Stevenson’s first of the year gives TransINVEST the win

Vilnius district club TransINVEST recorded their second victory of the season in the fourth round of the Toplyga, defeating FK Banga Gargždai 1-0 after scoring the decisive goal in the second half.

TransINVEST entered the match following their first defeat of the season, having lost 0-2 to Sūduva in the previous round. Banga, meanwhile, arrived in confident mood after an emphatic 5-0 victory over Riteriai, a match in which they had already scored four goals within the opening 26 minutes.

TransINVEST head coach Marius Stankevičius kept faith in the same starting eleven that featured in the previous match. In contrast, Banga manager David Afonso made three changes to his lineup.

The hosts were slightly more active during the first half, but neither side managed to create many dangerous chances. After the break, the Vilnius district side began to take control in spells, and one of their set-piece situations produced the only goal of the match. In the 64th minute, after a short corner routine, Jeudi Stevenson rose highest to head the ball past Volodymyr Krynskyi and give TransINVEST the lead. It was the Haitian forwards first goal of the season.

TransINVEST continued to threaten on the counterattack and came close to doubling their advantage on two occasions. Artūras Žulpa first struck the post with a powerful effort, and shortly afterwards sent another shot over the crossbar.

The win lifts TransINVEST to third place with seven points, while Banga remain just one point behind in the standings.
