Estonia international Markus Soomets was again in the starting lineup in the Norwegian OBOS-ligaen as his IK Start secured a 2-1 home victory over Skeid, keeping their push for a top-two finish and automatic promotion to Norway’s Eliteserien alive.

IK Start today hosted Skeid, one of the league’s bottom teams. Surprisingly, the visitors struck first when Jan Martin Andersen beat the Start goalkeeper to make it 1-0.

Start pushed for an equalizer throughout the first half but had to wait until the second half. Their persistence paid off in the 51st minute when Hakon Lorentzen leveled the score. Dominating the rest of the match, Start eventually snatched the winner in the 81st minute, securing three crucial points.

Soomets played 83 minutes before being substituted. This season, the Estonian midfielder has contributed one goal and one assist in league play since moving to Norway from Netherlands in the summer.

With the victory, Start remains third in the OBOS-ligaen standings, trailing second-placed Kongsvinger by just two points. With three rounds left in the season, Start will travel to Asane next Saturday, aiming to maintain pressure in the promotion race.
