In the headline clash of the 27th round of the Estonian Premium Liiga, Paide Linnameeskond controlled much of the play at home against Nõmme Kalju but failed to convert their chances, eventually settling for a 1-1 draw.

Paide’s superiority was especially evident in the opening half. Striker Henri Anier had two golden opportunities – one effort saved and another cannoning off the crossbar – before center-back Victor Hugo finally broke the deadlock with a well-placed header from a corner, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead. Kalju were not without chances of their own: Daniil Tarassenkov couldn’t find a way past goalkeeper Marko Meerits, and Kristjan Kask also rattled the woodwork.

After the break, Kalju found more rhythm, but the better opportunities still fell to Paide. Anier’s finishing woes continued, while Luqman Gilmore somehow failed to convert from just a couple of meters out following another corner. That wastefulness proved costly. In the 68th minute, Aleksandr Nikolajev slipped a clever pass into the box, where Siht smashed home the equalizer – 1-1.

Stung by the setback, Paide immediately raised the tempo. Ten minutes later, they came agonizingly close to restoring their lead when Pa Abdou Chami’s strike deflected off Mouhamed Gueye and hit the post. Gueye bundled the rebound into the net, but the goal was chalked off for a foul on Kalju goalkeeper Henri Perk in the build-up.

Paide’s night took another sour turn late on as substitute forward Sten Reinkort was sent off after picking up two quick yellow cards. Even with ten men, the home side pressed hardest in stoppage time, while Kalju also threatened on the counter.

In the end, the draw pleased neither team, as both lose further ground on league leaders Flora and Levadia.
