Just days after the end of the season, FA Šiauliai continue to make moves in preparation for the next campaign. Following yesterday’s announcement that Latvian specialist Jurģis Pučinsks will take over as the team’s new head coach, the club today confirmed that Portuguese midfielder Benny will remain with the team, signing a contract extension until the end of 2026.
The 24-year-old midfielder, whose full name is Bernardo Neves de Jesus Gouveia da Silva, joined Šiauliai ahead of this season. Over the course of a solid debut campaign, he made 28 appearances in the A Lyga, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
Before moving to Lithuania, Benny developed in Benfica’s youth academy and later played for several clubs in Portugal’s lower divisions, as well as spending a season in the Dutch second tier.
“I’m very happy to continue my career in Šiauliai,” Benny said in a statement to the club website. “Although the season wasn’t perfect and not everything went the way we wanted, it was a truly valuable one – both for me personally and for the whole team. I’m especially grateful to the club for their trust – here, I had the chance to rediscover myself on the pitch and contribute to the team’s play. I also really appreciate our fans – they were always by our side. Their support was especially felt in crucial moments and gave us extra energy. I’m looking ahead to the new season with great enthusiasm and belief that we can continue what we’ve started and achieve even more together.”
FA Šiauliai finished this A Lyga season in fifth place, while their Lithuanian Cup run ended in the quarterfinal stage.
