Estonian international full-back Michael Schjönning-Larsen made his Scottish Premiership debut today, coming off the bench in Kilmarnock’s 1-3 home defeat against Hibernian.
The 24-year-old defender joined Kilmarnock as a free agent after spending several seasons with FCI Levadia. Today marked the first time Schjönning-Larsen was available for selection, starting the match on the substitutes’ bench.
He was introduced in the 60th minute with the score level at 1-1, but just ten minutes later Edinburgh side Hibernian regained the lead to make it 2-1. Kilmarnock’s situation worsened further when they were reduced to ten men following a straight red card, and early into stoppage time Hibernian sealed the result by converting a penalty kick to score an insurance goal.
Kilmarnock’s struggles continue, as the club has now suffered five defeats in their last six matches and has not recorded a league victory since October 4. The run of poor form has left them hovering near the bottom of the table.
Next Saturday, Schjönning-Larsen and Kilmarnock face a crucial away fixture against fellow strugglers Livingston, who currently sit bottom of the league. Kilmarnock occupy second-from-bottom spot, holding a four-point advantage over Livingston.
