Hegelmann have strengthened their back line with the signing of defender Rimvydas Sadauskas, who returns to Lithuania after several seasons in Chinese football.
The 29-year-old said the move home had been on his mind for some time. “Before the challenge in China I already knew that one day I would return to Lithuania – this is my home,” Sadauskas said. “Then it was about the details: where to return, the pros and cons, which offers to choose. In the end, together with Hegelmann we decided it would be best for both me and the club if I was here this year.”
Sadauskas came through the Stumbras system and made his A Lyga debut in 2015, later spending time with Cork City on loan and playing in Lithuania’s top flight for Kauno Žalgiris and Šiauliai. In early 2024 he moved to China, signing for Guangzhou FC, before the club’s financial problems led to bankruptcy.
He remained in China in 2025 with Chongqing Tonglianglong, where he was given the captain’s armband, but said changes behind the scenes brought that chapter to an end. “The goal was to stay in China – I had a contract, I had a good season, I played almost every match,” he said. “But there was a change of ownership and coaches, and I was told they didn’t see me in the coming season. Football is like that… We made a mutual decision to terminate the contract and return to Lithuania.”
Sadauskas added that the switch was significant off the pitch as well as on it. “It was a very good decision for me – to come back to my family, to my Kaunas, to a Kaunas district team,” he said.
Sadauskas will wear the number 18 jersey and could make his debut on Sunday in a friendly against Žalgiris.
