Just before the start of the UEFA Conference League qualifying campaign, FK Kauno Žalgiris football club has bolstered its defense with a new addition. Rokas Lekiatas has joined the squad, replacing Edvinas Kloniūnas, who recently departed the club.

Lekiatas, a defender with 14 appearances for the Lithuanian national team, spent the past year and a half playing in Romania for Universitatea Craiova 1948.

Originally from Šiauliai, the 26-year-old began his football journey in Lithuania before a brief stint in Spain during his youth. Upon returning, he played for several Lithuanian clubs, including Džiugas Telšiai, Sūduva Marijampolė, and Pakruojis. Notably, he helped FA Šiauliai secure a bronze medal in the Lithuanian A Lyga championship.

After the 2023 season, Lekiatas had signed a contract with Panevėžys, but later took the opportunity to move abroad to Romania.

Now back in Lithuania, Lekiatas will wear the number 20 jersey for Kauno Žalgiris.

There, he’ll face stiff competition for a spot in the starting lineup, as center-backs Anton Tolordava and Aldayr Hernandez have formed a strong and cohesive partnership in league play.

The club is set to begin its UEFA Conference League qualifying campaign on July 10, with a match against Welsh side Penybont. The game will take place in Jonava, Lithuania.
