Riga Futsal Club will need a strong second-leg performance in Rīga after losing 4-7 away to Spanish side Palma Futsal in the first leg of their UEFA Futsal Champions League quarter-final.
The Latvian champions were punished early as the hosts scored four unanswered goals in the opening seven minutes and went into the break 5-0 ahead. Palma extended their advantage to 6-0 in the second half, leaving Riga facing a heavy aggregate deficit.
Riga kept the tie alive with a decisive spell late on, scoring three times in the 34th minute. Argentine forward Claudinho finished as Riga’s standout scorer with a hat-trick.
The return leg will be played on 6 March at the Komandu sporta spēļu halle, with the winners on aggregate progressing to the four-team final tournament.
Riga reached the last eight after wins in Malta against Luxol St. Andrews (4-1) and Loznica-Grad 2018 (2-0), alongside a defeat to Benfica (6-1). They then beat Prishtina 01 11-4 on aggregate in the last 16.
