Riga FC has confirmed that Nigerian striker Abdulrahman Taiwo will spend the rest of the season on loan at Spartak Trnava, a club he knows well and where he previously celebrated his greatest career success – winning the Slovak Cup in 2023.
The 27-year-old forward joined Riga in the summer of 2023 and, across two seasons, made 45 appearances, scoring 11 goals. This campaign, however, Taiwo has struggled for regular minutes, starting only once in 15 Virsliga matches. In total, he has played just 244 minutes, managing two goals and one assist.
Now Taiwo returns to familiar territory – a club where he once enjoyed the finest season of his career. Back in 2022/23, while on loan from Danish side Sönderjyske, the striker became a true fan favorite at Spartak Trnava. He featured in 27 matches across all competitions, scoring an impressive 19 goals.
His prolific form was instrumental in helping Spartak lift the Slovak Cup for the second year in a row. In that memorable cup run, Taiwo netted five goals in six matches, including a standout performance in the final against Slovan Bratislava, where he scored once and provided an assist in a dramatic 3–1 extra-time victory.
