It was a flawless May for Riga FC, and the league has taken notice. Midfielder Orlando Galo and head coach Adrian Gul’a have been named the Latvian Virslīga’s Player and Coach of the Month, respectively, after leading their side to an unbeaten run and the top of the league table.
Riga FC played seven matches throughout May, winning every single one. At home, they convincingly dispatched FS Jelgava, FK Liepāja, and FK Tukums 2000. On the road, they took maximum points from SK Super Nova, FK Auda, BFC Daugavpils, and FK Metta. The team’s dominance was clear in the stats: 19 goals scored, just 2 conceded.
A standout performer during this stretch was 24-year-old Costa Rican midfielder Orlando Galo. He started six of the seven matches, netting three goals and proving a constant threat in Riga’s attack. His impressive form didn’t go unnoticed back home—Galo earned a call-up to the Costa Rica national team, where he started in two FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Bahamas and Trinidad & Tobago. He even found the back of the net in the match against the Bahamas. And on Monday, Galo’s Costa Rica national team will kick off their CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign, taking place from June 14 to July 6 across Canada and the United States.
The Player of the Month nominees are selected by the Latvian Football Federation’s Coaches Council and the Latvian Virslīga association. Alongside Galo, this month’s shortlist featured Reginaldo Ramírez (Riga FC), Dmitrijs Zelenkovs (FC RFS), Kristers Čudars (SK Super Nova), and Oļģerds Raščevskis (FK Grobiņa).
