With three rounds still to play, Riga FC Women have officially secured the LuckyBet Women’s League title, making them champions of Latvia for the second consecutive season.
The decisive moment came on Saturday, when the Riga side demolished FK Iecava/FK Olaine 8-0 away from home. Closest rivals RFS Women also claimed victory, edging FK Auda 2-1 on the road, but the result was meaningless in the title race, with the gap at the top now mathematically unbridgeable.
Riga’s dominance this season has been absolute. They have won all 21 matches played so far, conceding just two goals across the entire campaign. In contrast, RFS trail by 11 points, with their hopes undone largely by three heavy defeats in the Riga derby (0-5, 0-4, 1-4), as well as a costly 2-2 draw against the Iecava/Olaine joint team.
For RFS Women, it’s a second straight year finishing with the silver medals, while the race for bronze currently favors FS Metta, who also claimed third place in each of the last two seasons.
Riga FC Women’s season isn’t done yet, however. On October 18, they will step onto the pitch at Skonto Stadium for the Latvian Cup final, where FK Auda will provide the opposition.
