Riga FC continued their red-hot form in the TonyBet Virslīga with a composed 2-0 victory over SK Super Nova at Skonto Stadium, extending their impressive winning streak to 13 games. Goals in each half—from Marko Regža and Antonijs Černomordijs—sealed the deal for the league leaders, who now sit just one win away from equaling their club record of 14 consecutive league victories, set in the 2020 season.

Fresh off a commanding 3-1 derby win against RFS, Riga FC head coach Adrian Gula made several changes to his starting XI. Star forward Reginaldo Ramires was unavailable due to injury, opening the door for Marko Regža—who had scored the winner in the previous match—to start up top. Also returning to the lineup were defender Antonijs Černomordijs, playmaker Brian Peña, and Costa Rican striker Anthony Contreras.

Meanwhile, SK Super Nova boss Ervīns Pērkons rang in the changes following a loss to FK Liepāja, keeping just three players from that match: goalkeeper Frenks Dāvids Orols, captain Mārcis Ošs, and attacker Abdoulaye Gueye. Notably, 16-year-old center-back Kristaps Rekmanis made his league debut—a trial by fire against Riga FC’s high-powered attack. The Latvian U17 national team defender showed promise in a tough assignment.

This season Riga FC had dominated this matchup, winning the two previous meetings this season 2-0 and 5-1. They started this one with similar intensity, nearly scoring in the opening minute. Raivis Jurkovskis broke into space down the left and squared the ball to Contreras, whose effort was denied by a sharp save from Orols—foreshadowing a standout performance by the young keeper.

But Riga didn’t wait long to break through. In the 22th minute, a well-executed set piece saw Gauthier Mankenda deliver a pinpoint cross from the right, and Regža rose to head home the opener. Just moments later, Regža had another golden chance, but this time his shot went straight into Orols’ hands.

Despite sustained pressure, the scoreline remained 1-0 heading into halftime.

The second half, however, became the Frenks Dāvids Orols show. On loan from RFS, the 24-year-old goalkeeper made a string of outstanding saves to keep Super Nova in the match. He denied Contreras’ header from a corner with lightning reflexes and later blocked a close-range effort from Iago Siqueira following another dangerous delivery by Joao Grimaldo.

Orols’ best save came after a powerful strike by Meissa Diop off a cross from Dašķevičs, showcasing top-tier reaction speed and positioning. Thanks to his heroics, Super Nova remained within striking distance, hoping for a potential equalizer on the counter.

But Riga’s relentless attack paid off in the dying moments. Once again, it was a set piece that did the damage. In the 90th minute, Grimaldo swung in another perfect ball, and Černomordijs rose above the defense to nod in Riga’s second, sealing the 2-0 victory.

With the win, Riga FC cements their position at the top of the table, moving eight points clear of second-place RFS—who still have a game in hand against FK Auda.
