Virslīga debutants Ogre United are set to welcome their first reinforcement ahead of the upcoming season, as Riga FC have announced that 19-year-old midfielder Tomass Mickevičs will join the club on loan for the duration of the campaign.
A graduate of the Riga FC academy, Mickevičs gained his first taste of top-flight football last season while on loan at FK Grobiņa, where he made nine appearances in the Virslīga. Before that, the young midfielder spent several seasons competing in the Nākotnes League, representing FK Salaspils and the Riga FC reserve side, while still awaiting his official competitive debut for Riga FC’s senior team.
At international level, Mickevičs has been a regular presence in Latvia’s youth national teams, progressing from the U-17s through to the U-21 side, where he made his debut earlier this year.
Ogre United earned promotion by winning the Nākotnes League last season and will compete in the Latvian Virslīga for the first time in the club’s history. The club recently appointed former Virslīga star Aleksandr Rekhviashvili as head coach. The Georgian specialist previously served as an assistant coach at SK Super Nova and FK Auda over the past two seasons.
