Latvian Virslīga leaders Riga FC have announced the signing of 25-year-old left-back Emīls Birka, who spent the first half of the season with FK Auda.

Birka, who prefers playing on the left flank, joined Auda earlier this year following a successful three-season spell with Valmiera FC, where he helped the team claim the 2022 Latvian Virslīga championship. During the current season, he stood out as one of Auda’s key players, contributing eight assists in 18 matches.

Over the course of his career in the Latvian top flight, Birka has already racked up an impressive 207 appearances, tallying nine goals and 29 assists.

A product of the FK Metta football academy, Birka made his Virslīga debut in 2017 at just 16 years old, coming on as a substitute against none other than his new club, Riga FC.

He has also received multiple call-ups to the Latvian national team and finally earned his long-awaited senior debut in 2024 during the Baltic Cup match against Lithuania.
