RFS Women have retained Latvia’s Winter Cup, winning the 7th edition of now traditional women’s pre-season tournament for the second consecutive year.
The team won all four of their matches in the five-team competition and secured with a game to spare. They opened with a 10-1 win against Metta’s B team, before recording narrower victories over Auda (2-0), Rīgas Futbola skola (2-1) and Metta (3-2). In the final match RFS Women came back from two goals down to complete the turnaround.
Rīgas Futbola skola finished second after an unbeaten run in their other three fixtures, drawing 1-1 with Metta, beating Metta’s B team 12-0 and defeating Auda 3-0.
Metta placed third with one win and two draws, with Auda next following one victory and one draw, while Metta’s B team finished last with no points.
Metta striker Anastasija Vainere was the tournament’s top scorer with five goals, while RFS Women’s Anastasija Čemirtāne scored four.
Latvia’s LuckyBet Women’s League is due to start on 21-22 March, with the Super Cup between RFS Women and Riga FC Women scheduled for 14th of March at LNK Sporta Parks.
