FA Šiauliai left Sportima Arena with renewed belief after fighting back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against FK TransInvest. In the post-match press-conference Šiauliai head coach Jurģis Pučinsks praised not just the result, but the character his side showed.
Šiauliai conceded early and found themselves in a difficult position, yet refused to collapse. “At the start we did not begin how we wanted and conceded quickly,” Pučinsks admitted after the match in a press-conference. “But overall it was a good game for us. There were mistakes, of course, but we wanted three points and our players showed character and team spirit. At the start of the season, that is very important for me.”
The comeback from 0-2 highlighted the resilience of a squad that blends experience with youth. Pučinsks was particularly satisfied with the contribution of his younger players, including 19-year-old goalkeeper Paulius Linkevičius and debutant Patrikas Pranckus, who marked his first Toplyga appearance with a goal.
“One of our club’s philosophies is to give chances to young players,” Pučinsks explained. “I am satisfied with how they played and how they train. In the near future they will improve and bring even more quality.”
While acknowledging that the team still has areas to refine, the Šiauliai coach expressed confidence in the direction his side is taking. He also confirmed that starting goalkeeper Gustas Baliutavičius missed the match due to an injury sustained in a friendly, while the status of Benny, who was substituted in the first half due to injury, will be clarified after further medical evaluation. With the transfer window still open, Pučinsks left the door slightly ajar for possible additions but suggested that the core of the squad is already in place.
For Patrikas Pranckus, the evening carried personal significance. The 19-year-old not only made his debut in Lithuania’s top division but also scored his first goal at this level, helping spark Šiauliai’s comeback.
“It was very important for us to come back from 0-2,” Pranckus said after the match. “Of course I’m happy to score my debut goal, but it’s disappointing that we didn’t turn it into a win.”
Having previously featured in Lithuania’s lower divisions, Pranckus acknowledged the adjustment required at the top level. “Everything happens faster in this league. I expected that. I really wanted to join a top-flight club this season and I’m happy I made that decision.”
Comfortable in multiple attacking roles, the young forward emphasized his willingness to adapt. “I can play in attack, on the right, on the left. It’s the coaches’ decision. I just want to play and help the team.”
