The 29th round of the Lithuanian A Lyga continued at Aukštaitija Stadium, where local side Panevėžys hosted Kauno rajono Hegelmann. Both teams had celebrated victories in the Lithuanian Cup semifinals earlier this week and are set to meet in the final, but on this occasion it was Hegelmann who came out on top, securing a narrow 1-0 win.
The first major threat came in the visitors’ box when Rokas Rasimavičius found Marko Bačanin, whose shot towards the far bottom corner was denied by goalkeeper Vincentas Šarkauskas.
Midway through the half, Njoya Abdel Kader had a golden opportunity to put Hegelmann ahead after Donatas Kazlauskas intercepted the ball and delivered a pinpoint pass to the Cameroonian forward. However, Panevėžys keeper Vytautas Černiauskas reacted well to block the effort. Moments later, he was called into action again to stop Kazlauskas’ strike from distance.
In the 38th minute, Salomon Kouadio tested the hosts with a dangerous header from a set piece, sending the ball just wide of Šarkauskas’ post.
The second half was defined by a lack of precision from both sides, and for much of the game it looked destined to end goalless. But in the 83rd minute, Andrius Skerla’s men broke through with a well-constructed attack. Substitute Wesley Gabriel once again proved decisive, scoring for the second straight league match to seal the win.
With the victory, the blue-and-whites cement their hold on second place with 56 points, while Panevėžys remain in seventh with 38 points.

In other match of the day Marijampolė’s Sūduva celebrated an important victory, beating FK Banga Gargždai 1-0 on the road.
David Afonso’s men started the match with greater confidence, keeping more of the ball, but it was the visitors who made their possession count. In the 14th minute, after Banga failed to deal with a situation in their own half, Sūduva launched a swift attack that was finished clinically by Nauris Petkevičius.
Banga nearly responded immediately. Sherwin Seedorf, a constant attacking threat throughout the match, struck on target, but returning goalkeeper Ignas Plūkas produced a crucial save to preserve the lead.
After the break, Sūduva placed greater emphasis on defense, effectively stifling their opponents and neutralizing every attacking attempt. The disciplined display ensured that Petkevičius’ early goal was enough to deliver all three points for the Marijampolė side.
