FA Šiauliai have strengthened their squad ahead of the new Toplyga season, which begins on Sunday, by signing last season’s Pirma lyga top scorer Chidera Henry Nwoga.
The Nigerian forward arrives in the Sun City after most recently representing TransINVEST, the Vilnius district club that returned to the top division this year. Nwoga joined Transinvest back in 2024 when the team was competing in the Toplyga. Last season, he played a decisive role in their Pirma lyga title-winning campaign, scoring 28 goals and claiming the Golden Boot as the league’s top scorer.
Before moving to Lithuania, Nwoga competed in the Maltese top flight with Mosta FC. His career has also included spells with NK Bistrica in Slovenia, Union Gurten in Austria, and several Portuguese clubs – SC Salgueiros, SC São João de Ver, Estrela Amadora and Tirense.
“I am very happy to join this organisation,” Nwoga said. “My first thoughts about linking my future with the Šiauliai were very positive because, in my opinion, this is a very good club where you can grow as a footballer. I can’t wait to begin this journey together with you.”
He highlighted the atmosphere within the squad as a key factor in his early impressions.
“There is a warm microclimate in the team – from the first minute everyone accepted me as one of their own, and the coaching staff are very supportive. Before arriving, I already knew a few of the players because over the past two years we played against each other. I think that will help me integrate into the group faster and work toward our common goals.”
FA Šiauliai will begin their Toplyga campaign on Sunday when they will play against Nwoga’s former team FK TransINVEST.
