Lithuanian striker Nauris Petkevičius opened his goal account in the Indian Super League and played a decisive role as Inter Kashi secured their first-ever top-flight victory, defeating Kerala Blasters away from home 2-1.
The 26-year-old forward, returning to the starting lineup, broke the deadlock in the 34th minute with a superb finish from a tight angle, rifling the ball into the top corner to give his side the lead. It was his first goal in India’s highest division and a moment of real quality in a tense contest.
Petkevičius continued to influence the match after the break. In the second half, he turned provider, assisting Inter Kashi’s second goal as the visitors doubled their advantage and took control of the game.
Although Kerala Blasters pulled one goal back late on, Inter Kashi held firm to record a historic first victory in the Indian Super League. The result means Petkevičius’ side begin the campaign with one win and two draws from their opening three matches.
Inter Kashi will look to build on that momentum on Friday, when they travel to face Jamshedpur, who have managed just one win from their first three league fixtures.
