The new Indian Super League season has begun, with Lithuanian forward Nauris Petkevičius making his debut as Inter Kashi played out a draw in their first-ever match at the top level.
The 25-year-old striker, who was announced as an Inter Kashi signing in January, scored eight goals last season in Lithuania’s top division for FK Sūduva. He was named in the starting lineup for his club’s Indian top-flight debut, as Inter Kashi travelled to face one of the league’s strongest sides, FC Goa.
Petkevičius started the match and played 64 minutes before being substituted with his team leading 1-0. However, Inter Kashi were unable to hold on to their advantage. After their goalkeeper was shown a red card, the substitute goalkeeper conceded from the penalty spot, and the match finished 1-1, with both teams collecting a point in the season opener.
Petkevičius and Inter Kashi will return to action in ten days’ time, once again on the road, when they face Odisha FC.
