Lithuanian A Lyga club FK Žalgiris have officially confirmed the addition of Croatian defender Petar Bosančić, who has recovered from a long-term injury and is ready to strengthen the team’s back line.

The 29-year-old center-back first joined Žalgiris in preseason training earlier this year but suffered an injury in his very first session, forcing him out of action for six months. Bosančić returned to Croatia for rehabilitation and has now been presented as an official member of the squad during the September international break.

Bosančić is no stranger to Baltic football, having spent the past two seasons in Latvia, where he made 35 appearances in the Latvian Virslīga for Riga FC and FK Auda, scoring twice. Before his stint in Latvia, he built a solid career in his homeland, playing in the Croatian top flight with Hajduk Split and NK Istra.

In 2021, he took his first step abroad, signing with FC Mariupol in the Ukrainian Premier League. His career also includes spells with Široki Brijeg in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Cherno More Varna in Bulgaria.

Žalgiris, last season’s A Lyga champions, currently sit fifth in the table after 27 matches, just three points shy of fourth-placed FA Šiauliai. Their next challenge comes this Saturday with an away trip to FK Banga Gargždai.
