Latvia international midfielder Kristers Penkevičs made his long-awaited debut in the Czech First League, although his club FC Zlín suffered a 1-3 home defeat to Slavia Prague.
The 23-year-old midfielder, who joined the Czech club during the winter transfer window, had been sidelined for a short period due to a muscle injury. Last week, Penkevičs played 75 minutes for Zlín’s reserve team, and today he was included back in the matchday squad for the first team.
Penkevičs entered the match in the 84th minute with the score at 0-3, marking his first appearance in the Czech top flight.
Zlín managed to score a consolation goal late in the game, but the defeat could not be avoided.
After 26 rounds, Zlín sit ninth in the league table with 31 points. Their next league match will take place after the March international break.
