Latvian goalkeeper Roberts Ozols secured his first victory with FK Bylis, as the Albanian side produced a surprise home win over league leaders KF Vllaznia.

The 30-year-old shot-stopper, who joined Bylis just a few weeks ago, had previously played three matches for the club, all ending in narrow defeats. Facing the league’s top team, Bylis were again under pressure, but Ozols played a key role in the result.

In the first half, Ozols made five saves to keep the score level. Early in the second half, Bylis took the lead, and the Latvian goalkeeper continued to contribute with several important stops as Vllaznia pushed for an equaliser.

Deep into stoppage time, with Vllaznia sending their goalkeeper forward in search of a goal, Bylis regained possession and broke forward into an empty net to effectively seal the win. However, Ozols was denied a clean sheet in the ninth minute of added time when Vllaznia managed to pull one goal back.

Despite conceding late, Bylis held on for a notable victory. The three points lifted Ozols’ side from the bottom of the table up to eighth place in the standings.

Bylis will look to build on the result next Saturday when they travel to face AF Elbasani.
