Scottish Premiership club Kilmarnock FC have announced the signing of Estonia international full-back Michael Schjønning-Larsen, with the contract running until May 2027.

The 24-year-old left-sided defender arrives in Scotland after spending the past three seasons with FCI Levadia Tallinn, where he established himself as one of the most consistent and effective defenders in the Estonian Premium Liiga. During his time at Levadia, Schjønning-Larsen enjoyed a highly successful spell, winning one league title, one Estonian Cup, and one Estonian Super Cup.

In the most recent season, Schjønning-Larsen featured in 33 league matches, contributing one goal and eight assists. As his Levadia were unable to retain the league title they won in 2024, finishing behind their main rivals Flora.

Over the course of his domestic career, Schjønning-Larsen has accumulated 160 Premium Liiga appearances across spells with Kuressaare and Levadia, scoring seven goals. On the international stage, he has earned 18 caps for the Estonian national team.

After several seasons in Estonia, Schjønning-Larsen now takes the next step in his career by moving abroad for the first time. He joins Kilmarnock FC, a club founded in 1869 and one of Scotland’s historic sides. Kilmarnock have lifted the Scottish top-flight title once in their history, achieving glory during their golden era in the 1964/65 season, after finishing runners-up four consecutive years before finally claiming the long-awaited championship.

The timing of Schjønning-Larsen’s arrival coincides with a difficult period for the Ayrshire club. Kilmarnock have endured a challenging start to the current Scottish Premiership campaign and currently sit 11th out of 12 teams, with 12 points from 17 matches, three points clear of bottom-placed Livingston FC. The club recently dismissed head coach Stuart Kettlewell following a run of ten consecutive matches without a win, a streak that has stretched back to October 4.

Schjønning-Larsen will play his home matches at Rugby Park, a stadium with a capacity of 15,000, located in the town of Kilmarnock, home to around 45,000 residents. His contract officially comes into effect on January 1, making his potential debut possible on January 3, when Kilmarnock host Hibernian – interestingly, one of the clubs previously linked with a move for the Estonian defender.
