Estonia learned their opponents for the upcoming UEFA Nations League campaign during the draw held in Brussels, where they were placed in League C alongside Iceland, Bulgaria and the winner of the playoff between Luxembourg and Malta.
Having retained their place in League C in the previous edition, Estonia entered the draw with Estonian FA president Aivar Pohlak and head coach Jürgen Henn present in the stands as the group was determined. The new Nations League campaign will run from September to November this year.
From Pot 1, Estonia were drawn against Iceland. The two sides last met in an official fixture in 2023, playing out a 1-1 draw. Iceland, currently ranked 74th in the FIFA standings, were relegated from League B in the previous Nations League cycle.
From Pot 2 came Bulgaria, a nation Estonia have not faced in more than 20 years. Although the two sides technically met in a friendly in 2011, the match was later annulled by UEFA due to referee match-fixing. Bulgaria are currently ranked 87th in the FIFA rankings and are going through a difficult period at international level.
From Pot 4, Estonia will face either Luxembourg or Malta, depending on the outcome of their playoff. Estonia met Malta in the Nations League four years ago, winning both matches. They have not faced Luxembourg in over ten years.
All six League C group matches will be played between September and November.
