Tonight, at the season launch event on Tuesday 3rd of March, RFS head coach Viktors Morozs stated that the club have reached a point where anything other than winning is no longer an acceptable target.
Speaking alongside general director Māris Verpakovskis, Morozs, who will be starting his 7th year at RFS, said questions about objectives now felt “a little unserious” because RFS “cannot have anything else” but the highest ambitions in every competition. “We have become a team that must only win – in any league, any cup, any match,” he said.
Verpakovskis said the club’s winter schedule had followed a familiar pattern after a demanding 2025 campaign, with a January training block in Riga and a February camp in Turkey that included “high-quality” friendly matches. He added that RFS should be ready for the new season, while acknowledging the true picture would emerge once competitive games begin.
On recruitment side, Verpakovskis said RFS were no longer actively looking to add players and felt the off-season work had been strong, even if a small number of foreign targets did not arrive because of transfer fees or a lack of interest in moving to the Latvian league. He said a key priority after last season’s injury problems had been getting the squad back to full health.
Verpakovskis also said the club expect their budget to remain broadly in line with last season, noting costs were higher in periods when RFS were playing in the UEFA Europa League on account of match organisation and travel.
