In the Swiss Super League, Estonian international midfielder Mattias Käit experienced his first defeat of the season as FC Thun fell 1-3 at home to defending champions Basel.

Käit, who joined Thun this summer after four seasons in Romania, was selected in the starting lineup for the fourth consecutive game. His opponent proved formidable, with Basel – the reigning champions – quickly asserting control.

The visitors took a two-goal lead in the first half, largely thanks to former Bayern Munich and Liverpool midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, who scored one goal and provided an assist. Thun pulled a goal back early in the second half when Leonardo Bertone converted a penalty, but it wasn’t enough. Shaqiri struck again from the spot in the closing minutes, completing a brace and handing Thun their first league defeat of the season.

Kait played 84 minutes of his sixth match for Thun before being substituted. Despite the loss, Thun remain near the top of the table in second place with 13 points, two behind leaders St. Gallen and one ahead of today’s opponent Basel.

Thun’s next official league match is in two weeks, as the upcoming weekend features Swiss Cup fixtures and Thun were eliminated in the first round. When league action resumes, Thun will travel to face Young Boys.
