Just days after FK Banga Gargždai officially announced the departure of goalkeeper Mantas Bertašius, Lithuanian football circles were stirred by unexpected reports linking him to newly promoted A lyga side FK Transinvest.
The first outlet to signal the move was futbolas.lt, which, in its coverage of Bertašius’ exit from Banga, stated that the 25 year-old is set to join the Vilnius district club. Today, the news gained further credibility when respected Lithuanian football journalist Marius Bagdonas confirmed that the transfer is indeed expected to materialize in a 15min podcast.
The move comes as a surprise to many. Bertašius is coming off what is widely viewed as the best season of his career, one that elevated him into the conversation as arguably the top goalkeeper in the league. Given his standout performances, few experts or supporters anticipated a switch to a club returning to the top flight after last year’s relegation.
FK Transinvest will enter only their second A lyga campaign after bouncing back from their 2024 drop. Securing Bertašius signals clear ambition: the club appears intent on avoiding past mistakes and establishing itself as a competitive force rather than merely fighting for survival.
