Following their recent A Lyga match against FK Panevėžys, FK Kauno Žalgiris announced via social media that long-serving midfielder Edvinas Kloniūnas will be leaving the club.
The experienced Lithuanian midfielder, who has represented Kauno Žalgiris across ten seasons with intermittent breaks, had yet to make an appearance this season for the league-leading side. Despite being a key figure in past campaigns, he had not featured in the squad’s plans in the current term.
Last season, Kloniūnas played 25 league matches for the club, scoring two goals. In total, he leaves Kaunas having made 186 appearances and scoring 15 goals — a testament to his longevity and importance to the club over the years.
During his career, the former Lithuania U21 international spent just two professional seasons away from Kauno Žalgiris, playing abroad with Croatian side Bijelo Brdo and Armenian club FC Sevan.
