Highly rated Lithuanian goalkeeper Arnas Voitinovičius has signed a new contract with Portuguese giants SL Benfica, extending his stay at the club he has represented since January 2024.
The 19-year-old made his debut for Benfica B just a few days ago, featuring in the Portuguese second division as Benfica’s reserve side played out a 1-1 draw against FC Porto B. Following that milestone, the Lisbon club rewarded the young goalkeeper with a contract extension, though the length of the new deal has not been disclosed.
Voitinovičius, a regular member of the Lithuania U-19 national team, has also made five appearances for Benfica’s U23 side this season. Before his move to Portugal, he debuted in the Lithuanian A Lyga at just 16 years old in 2023 with FK Riteriai.
Speaking after signing his new contract, Voitinovičius expressed his satisfaction with his development in Portugal:
“This is a good step forward, and now the key is to keep going. It’s a great club, and this move is very important for me. The experience here is very positive and very different from Lithuania. I’ve been here for two years now and I feel really good at Benfica,” the goalkeeper said.
“Everything is going very well so far. I train with the B team and feel good. I’m also playing matches and getting a lot of game time, which makes me feel that I’m improving. Of course, the goal is to reach the first team and play there, but that will be another step forward. I’m very happy, truly.”
