The Lithuanian Football Federation has announced that the national team will play two international friendlies in March next year. Edgaras Jankauskas’ side will first travel to Moldova, before returning home to host Georgia, led by their star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, at Kaunas’ Darius and Girėnas Stadium.

Lithuania’s first test comes on 26 March, with an away match against Moldova, currently ranked 158th in the FIFA rankings. Three days later, the national team will play on home soil in Kaunas, where Georgia will arrive with a squad featuring several standout European league players.

Moldova recently earned promotion to the UEFA Nations League C Division after winning their D-division group in the 2024-25 campaign. However, their 2026 World Cup qualifying run was far less successful, finishing last in their group with just one point from eight matches behind Norway, Italy, Israel, and Estonia.

Georgia, meanwhile, reached historic heights in the summer of 2024 by qualifying for the European Championship for the first time. But their recent World Cup qualifying campaign was disappointing, collecting only one win from six matches and finishing third behind Spain and Turkey, ahead of Bulgaria.

Georgia’s squad remains packed with elite talent. Their leading star, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, now at PSG and a Champions League winner, headlines the team alongside Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. Another key figure is Georges Mikautadze, currently playing for Champions League side Villarreal and the nation’s top active scorer with 21 goals. In total, eight Georgian players have appeared in Europe’s top five leagues this year.

Lithuania will then turn its attention to the Baltic Cup in June, before kicking off a new UEFA Nations League cycle in the autumn – this time competing in the competition’s lowest tier, Division D.
