Lithuania learned their opponents for the upcoming UEFA Nations League campaign during the official draw held in Brussels, with the national team placed in a League D group alongside Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein. The matches will take place in the second half of the year, between September and November 2026.
After being relegated from League C in the previous edition following six defeats in six matches, Lithuania entered the draw hoping for a favorable group. Instead, they were paired with Azerbaijan, widely considered the strongest possible opponent from their pot.
The side coached by Edgaras Jankauskas, currently ranked 146th in the FIFA standings, has faced Azerbaijan four times previously. Each team has recorded one win, while two matches ended goalless. Their most recent meeting came in a friendly in November 2025, which also finished 0-0.
Lithuania’s other group opponent, Liechtenstein, will face them for the first time since September 2013.
