It was a Friday night to remember for Lithuanian football fans as the national women’s team delivered a commanding performance in their third UEFA Women’s Nations League clash. Playing away in Baku, the Lithuanian squad left no doubts about their intentions, crushing hosts Azerbaijan with a stunning 5–0 win.
From the first whistle, Lithuania set the tone. Just minutes into the match, Rimantė Jonušaitė opened the scoring with a clinical finish, setting the stage for what would become a dominant display. Monika Grikšaitė quickly doubled the lead, and by the 30-minute mark, Jonušaitė had already completed her brace.
Before the halftime break, Ugnė Lazdauskaitė added a fourth goal, giving Lithuania a nearly unassailable 4–0 advantage heading into the locker room.
The second half saw no let-up in intensity. Tereza Romanovskaja capped off the night with a fifth goal, ensuring Lithuania’s grip on the match never wavered. Though Azerbaijan attempted to mount some offensive pressure late in the game, their efforts fell short against a disciplined Lithuanian defense.
Now, all eyes turn to the decisive match this coming Tuesday, as Lithuania hosts Montenegro. A win would secure the top spot in the group and promotion to a higher division. However, any other result would relegate Lithuania to third place.
