Lithuania began their FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign with a 6-1 away win over Liechtenstein in Vaduz on Tuesday.
Rimantė Jonušaitė scored four times as Tomas Ražanauskas’ side took early control at the Rheinpark Stadion. Jonušaitė opened the scoring in the third minute from close range after a pass by Viltė Švarcaitė.
Liechtenstein briefly levelled on the half-hour when Katharina Risch finished a rare attack, but Lithuania regained the lead before the interval as Ugnė Lazdauskaitė sent a direct corner into the net in the 43rd minute.
Lithuania dominated the second half and Jonušaitė added three more goals in the 64th, 77th and 83rd minutes to complete her four-goal haul. Substitute Skaistė Petrauskaitė, on her senior debut, rounded off the scoring in stoppage time.
Lithuania’s next qualifier is at home to Estonia on Saturday, 7 March, with kick-off at 17:00 at Raudondvario Stadium. Admission will be free.
