Latvian top-flight club FK Liepāja has officially announced the signing of French-born Portuguese left-back Amilcar Silva. The 25-year-old, who will celebrate his 26th birthday next week, becomes the latest addition to the club’s squad as they continue their push for a top-three finish in the Virslīga.

Silva brings with him a rich footballing background, having spent the bulk of his career in France, including an impressive 18-year spell at the renowned AS Monaco academy. During his time with the Monegasque side, Silva featured multiple times in the UEFA Youth League and even captained the squad on several occasions. Despite his long stint at the club, he never made a first-team appearance but played 39 games for the reserve side.

In September 2023, Silva joined AS Sedan, competing in the Championnat National, France’s third tier. His performances there did not go unnoticed, earning him a move to a more competitive third-tier outfit, FC Sochaux. He spent the next two seasons with Sochaux, although the second half of the most recent campaign saw him loaned out to US Concarneau, where he made 14 appearances. As of July 1, Silva became a free agent.

On the international stage, Silva has three caps for the Portugal U-20 national team.

FK Liepāja currently sits in fourth place in the Latvian Virslīga standings with 35 points after 22 rounds, just two points behind third-placed FK Auda. Silva could make his debut this Saturday in the Latvian Cup, as FK Liepāja travels to face JFK Ventspils.
