FK Liepāja have reinforced their defensive line by signing Luxembourg international centre-back Marvin Martins, who previously competed in the Swiss Super League.
The 31-year-old defender made 11 appearances this season for FC Winterthur in Switzerland’s top division. Prior to that, Martins spent three seasons in the Austrian Bundesliga with Austria Vienna, where he played a total of 85 matches for the first time.
Martins, who can also operate as a right-back, has experience in several European leagues. He has featured in the Dutch top flight with Almere City FC, as well as in Portugal’s second division and the Ukrainian Premier League.
The experienced defender began his professional career in Luxembourg, representing Jeunesse Esch and Progrès Niederkorn. On the international stage, Martins has earned 41 caps for the Luxembourg national team, scoring three goals.
The club had previously indicated that it was seeking reinforcements both at centre-back and full-back. Ahead of the new season, FK Liepāja are expected to add at least one more player to head coach Andreas Alm’s squad.
FK Liepāja will open their upcoming campaign on March 7 with a home fixture against Riga FC.
