Virslīga club FK Liepāja have announced the signing of goalkeeper Alvis Sorokins on loan from FK Metta for the 2026 season.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper is a product of the FK Metta academy and has been part of the club’s senior squad for the past few seasons. In 2024, Sorokins completed his first full campaign as Metta’s first-choice goalkeeper, making 31 appearances in the Virslīga.

During the following season, his playing time was shared with Ņikita Parfjonovs – before the latter’s move to Tukums in the second half of the season – as well as young academy goalkeeper Krists Pļaviņš. In total, Sorokins featured in 16 Virslīga matches last season, keeping two clean sheets.

Sorokins now joins FK Liepāja on a loan deal, becoming the latest in a growing list of players developed at the Metta academy to move to the Liepāja in recent seasons. Previous arrivals from Metta include Bruno Melnis, Ņikita Parfjonovs, Iļja Korotkovs, Oskars Vientiess, and Alans Kangars, although Kangars has since officially departed the club.

FK Metta were relegated from the Virslīga last season for the first time since 2012 and will compete in the Nākotnes līga this year, aiming for a swift return to Latvia’s top division.
