Liepāja open the second round of the new Virslīga season on Friday evening when they host RFS at the Daugava reserve pitch, with kick-off at 18:00.

Both sides began the campaign with wins last week. RFS beat promoted Ogre United 2-0 at home, with Jānis Ikaunieks scoring both goals after the break. Liepāja followed with a 2-1 victory over reigning champions Riga FC, taking all three points through two penalties converted by Kyvon Leidsman and Djibril Gueye

That result gave Liepāja an early lift, but RFS go into the meeting with the stronger recent record. Last season the Rīga club finished second and Liepāja were third, although the gap between them stood at 26 points. RFS also won two of the four league meetings between the sides in 2025, while Liepāja claimed one victory and the other match ended level.

RFS have been one of the division’s most consistent teams in recent years and have finished outside the top two only once since 2019, when they came third in 2022. Liepāja secured bronze last season after finishing sixth and fifth in the previous two campaigns.

The opening weeks of the new Virslīga season are being played without VAR. Video review is expected to be introduced across all matches later in April.

The Virslīga Matchday two will continue tomorrow with Grobiņa hosting Auda and Riga FC looking for their first win of the Virslīga season when they play BFC Daugavpils.
