The Latvian Football Federation (LFF) has appointed Liene Vāciete as the head coach of the women’s national football team on a 2+2-year contract. At 33, Vāciete brings extensive experience, having coached Latvia’s youth national teams and worked in the FS Metta system.
Liene Vāciete played 19 matches for Latvia, scoring seven goals, and spent four years in the U.S. college football system before retiring in 2017.
Vāciete is the first Latvian woman to join UEFA’s PRO coaching license program and has participated in UEFA’s coach mentoring initiative. Reflecting on her appointment, she said:
“This role is a great honor and challenge. I am ready to commit fully to building a strong and competitive team that inspires future generations.”
Latvia will compete in UEFA Nations League C this year, facing Kosovo and North Macedonia, with the first match scheduled for February 25 in Kosovo. Vāciete replaces Romāns Kvačovs, who coached the team from 2021 to 2024.
