The Latvian Football Federation’s ethics committee has opened an investigation into possible breaches of the federation’s player status and transfer regulations after the opening rounds of the Virslīga season.

LFF said the review followed public claims that clubs may have ignored new loan rules which prevent them from restricting players from facing their parent clubs. A new provision introduced for this season states that loan agreements cannot contain bans, limits or financial penalties linked to a player’s involvement against the club that loaned him out. The federation added that it can inspect loan contracts at any time and demand amendments if terms do not comply with the regulations.

The issue drew attention after several apparent absences in the third round of fixtures. In Auda’s 2-1 defeat by Riga, Ibrahim Hussaini and Deniss Meļņiks were not involved, while Nils Puriņš remained in goal and Ousmane Camara made his first appearance of the season. Ogre United also faced Liepāja without Liepāja-owned U-21 internationals Ņikita Parfjonovs and Markuss Ivulāns in a 1-0 defeat, while Daugavpils were beaten 4-1 by RFS with Daniel Kivinda and Rostand Ndjiki out of the squad, Papa on the bench and Mamadou Sylla out for only 15 minutes.

LFF said the regulation was introduced to protect players from unjustified restrictions on their right to play. The federation has not announced any findings from the review.
