Latvia’s Football Federation (LFF) has confirmed the participant list for the 2026 Altero.lv LIIGA season, the country’s third tier of football pyramid. Following a review of licensing requirement for amateur clubs, the competition has been expanded from 16 to 20 teams for 2026.
The approved entrants are: AFA Olaine, Augšdaugavas NSS, FS Jelgava-2, FK Salaspils, JDFS Alberts-2, Rīgas Futbola skola, FK Karosta, Dienvidkurzemes SS, FK Līvāni, JFC Viola, JFK Daugava/FK Union, FK Dinamo Rīga, FK Aliance, FK Liepāja-2/LFS, BFC Daugavpils-2, Babīte SK, FK Iecava, FK Cēsis, SK Spēks VSS and FK Ķekava/Auda.
The LFF stated that 12 sides remain from last season, joined by two teams relegated from last year’s second tier (AFA Olaine and Augšdaugavas NSS) and six clubs promoted from the third tier: FK Liepāja-2/LFS, BFC Daugavpils-2, Babīte SK, FK Iecava, FK Cēsis and SK Spēks VSS.
The fixture list is expected to be published at the start of next week. The 20 teams will be split into two 10-team regional divisions in a double round-robin first phase format.
In the second phase, the top two clubs from each division will comprise a single, final group in a double round-robin format, carrying over head-to-head results from the first phase and facing only teams from the other division.
The top two overall will earn promotion to the second tier for the following season whereas the bottom two in each first-phase division will lose their place for the 2027 championship, with their spots to be taken by the top four teams from the fourth tier.
