In the penultimate 35th round of the Estonian Premium Liiga, Nõmme Kalju FC clinched the bronze medals and a place in next season’s European competitions with a 2-1 comeback victory over Tartu JK Tammeka, while Levadia Tallinn’s win against JK Narva Trans ensured that the title race will go down to the final matchday.
After Flora Tallinn’s win over FC Kuressaare the previous day, Levadia knew that anything less than three points in Narva would hand their city rivals the championship. But Levadia responded decisively, taking firm control of the match early on. Within two minutes, Carlos Torres and Til Mavretič both found the net to make it 2-0, before Mihkel Ainsalu added a third in the 34th minute – his ninth goal of the season.
In the second half, the hosts were reduced to ten men after Ahmad Gero received his second yellow card. Levadia took advantage late on, as 17-year-old Maksimilian Skvortsov scored his first goal of the season to seal a 4-0 victory.
Levadia will travel to face Harju JK Laagri next Sunday, knowing only a win will keep their title hopes alive – while also needing Flora to drop points away to Pärnu JK Vaprus.
